MARTA JUVANTENY COLELL

Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Barcelona, 1981

Her work mainly focuses on the concept of refuge and the perception of a time seduced by curiosity, with a hypnotic and spiraling movement, making it difficult to provide a conscious summary and a closed description. Juvanteny explores mental spaces, from being and existence to communication, reflecting a deep immersion in the psychology of physical space and its influence on human perception.

Diverging from the narrative discourses of objective and representative imagery, as well as from the technical possibilities of new technological means or innovations between art and digital culture, Marta Juvanteny Colell poses a crucial question: what is the technological system doing to us?

Through her artistic practice, she seeks to understand subjectivity in the hyperconnected world and the network system in which we are all immersed. Using a generative practice, reminiscent of the process of walking, Juvanteny reaches a point of collapse, which ultimately disappears within herself. This process reflects a profound reflection on the role of technology in our human experience and its impact on our perception and identity.

Her work is distinguished by meticulousness and precision, with a slow and progressive execution. When contemplating her works, the viewer must get very close to observe them in detail, requiring concentrated attention in which they will discover more as they immerse themselves in them. Often, the artist eliminates color to reinforce the perception of a time marked by continuous present, without memory and with an urgent character, where the excesses of the present become more evident, offering a critical-reflexive and introspective look at the human condition in the era of technology.

Geometry is a key tool in her work, as it allows her to explore the transit in connectivity and the perceptual transformation of time and space. Through the grid, she configures spatial structures that not only reflect displacement but also prefigure metaphysical principles related to mental movement and our relationship with the environment.

The way she approaches elements like point and line in graphic design, and how these draw and weave relationships, architectures, topographies, and structures of perceptible and imperceptible phenomena, reveals a deep immersion in the complexity of our experience. Marta Juvanteny Colell explores the intersection between light, sound, and movement in the face of digital consumption, navigating through the graphic codes of transmission and connectivity.

Her exploration not only seeks to understand but also to transliterate the complexity of a spiral and profound time, as well as the narcotic consumption that can emerge from our interaction with digital technology. Through this artistic practice, Juvanteny reveals the multiple layers and dimensions of our contemporary reality, offering a critical and reflective look at the influence of technology on our perception and experience of the world.

The practice unfolds through open cycles of exploration, where mental and physical capacities are put into tension and any notion of autonomy is questioned. What is not immediately visible also belongs to reality, as everything operates within a network of relations.

Subjectivity is thus configured as a relational field, shaped by cultural and conceptual frameworks, while the work remains in constant transformation, advancing through layers that reveal the interconnection of all elements.

Within the two-dimensional plane of painting, this inquiry takes form through an engagement with perception, code, and language, where the image becomes a field of tension. Fiction emerges in relation to the unknown, as a space of openness that activates new modes of reading and interpretation.
